A SIGNIFICANT event in Cumbrian history is being marked by The Lake District Holocaust Project today, despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Around 300 Jewish child Holocaust survivors flew from Prague to Crosby-on-Eden airport near Carlisle on August 14 1945 after surviving the horrors of Nazi concentration camps.
And The Lake District Holocaust Project is determined to mark the 75 year anniversary of their arrival despite the Covid-19 outbreak. LDHP is marking the arrival of "the Windermere Children" today at the very spot they touched down on British soil.
A livestream at Carlisle Lake District Airport includes readings from After the War by award winning author Tom Palmer. His book tells the story of their time in Cumbria as well as the horrors they were fleeing from.
Belinda Hochland and David Shannon spoke of their close family links to the child survivors.
