Helping the community is part of Sharon Graham’s job – but it is how she does it that has earned her the title of person of the week.

Sharon, 49, of Woodhouse, Whitehaven, is community champion for her local Morrison’s store.

In ordinary times that means finding suitable donations for charity raffles, sorting prizes and organising timings for groups wanting to raise money by packing bags for shoppers.

But these are not ordinary times – and neither is what she is doing.

Sharon is organising and very hands-on in ensuring that those vulnerable and shielding are getting grocery orders and doing doorstep deliveries.

She even has a group of four or five elderly people for whom she shops, delivers and takes time for a cuppa and a chat.

Sharon also organises the gift boxes that have been sent to NHS workers and care homes during the pandemic.

Teresa Tubman, who nominated her, said: “I would like to nominate Sharon Graham for all she does to help everyone not just during this pandemic but all the time.

“She always goes out of her way to help at the moment.”

Sharon helps with fundraising efforts, including helping raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and is available wherever and whenever needed.

“She truly is the most kind remarkable woman I have ever met,” said Teresa.

Sharon has worked for Morrisons for 16 years and has been community champion for the last three.

“I really enjoy it,” she said.

She received a gift from grateful clients for her work and was overwhelmed by the comments on social media:

“You deserve it.”

“You are a legend – one of my favourite people in the pandemic.”

“You’re an asset to the store but, even more so, to the local community. Well done again Sharon.”

“Lovely Lady.”

When she is not working her greatest joy is hanging out with “the apple of my eye,” her grandson Archer.

Sharon is married to Marc. They have two grown sons – Jordan, who is in the army and is the father of Archer, and Matthew who works at Sellafield.
