A FUTURE football star is jumping for joy after his hard work has been rewarded, as he signs for a major football club.

Eight-year-old Aston Davies is officially a Carlisle United member, after signing his papers to join the Under 9s Academy.

The young sports fanatic has been kicking the ball about since he was six years old, playing for Cleator Moor Celtic.

And after a year at the pre-academy for the Blues, the Mirehouse boy is all set to lace up his boots and take a step up the ladder.

Proud mum Stacie Davies said Aston is "really happy" to be signed, and he can't wait to see what's next.

"He wouldn’t be where he is today if it wasn’t for the help and support from his coaches, Ryan and Dale," she said.

"It’s like one big family up there, which made it a hard decision for him to leave his team and sign for Carlisle United.

"But he’s really happy to have the opportunity, and excited for what’s in store."

She added: "Me and [dad] Wayne are so proud of Aston and how far he’s come.

"Now he just has to work hard, do his best, and most of all enjoy the experience and see what happens!"

Aston is looking forward to his training, with high hopes for a September start.
