Up to £100 cashback is available to motorcycle riders that take an advanced riding course with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

Cumbria Road Safety Partnership is working with Morecambe Bay Estuaries Advanced Motorcyclists (MBEAM), part of the UK’s largest independent road safety charity, to deliver the cashback incentive.

The accredited course will provide conscientious motorcyclists the chance to increase their on-road safety, confidence and enjoyment, whilst lowering their insurance premiums and gaining qualifications.

Advanced training can equip the motorcyclist to spot hazards, react quicker, take appropriate action, and maintain a higher level of control, making them much safer and more confident on the road.

Courses are individually tailored to each rider and involve a minimum of six coaching sessions with an IAM observer leading up to a test, all conducted locally.

Motorcyclists with a CA postcode will qualify for £100 cashback on completion of the course.

MBEAM chairman Rudy Rengers said: “Everyone can become a safer and more skilful rider though a course like this.

"More efficient riding even reduces wear and tear, meaning fewer repairs and bills.”

Rudy added: “Courses refine skills, increase awareness and anticipation, and award a national qualification that most insurers reward with lower premiums.

“Biking is wonderful for physical and mental wellbeing. It’s low impact, and allows people to be sociable while remaining naturally socially distanced. You wouldn’t get back on your bike without checking it was in top condition, and most people’s skillsets can benefit from a similar MOT. These incentives make it the perfect time to think seriously about advanced rider training.”

MBEAM also organise their own regular club rides, road and track skill sessions, trips, tours and socials, and have seen an increase in enquiries over recent weeks, especially from women.
