A COMPETITION to find Copeland’s best-kept garden is closing this weekend.

Residents have just days left to enter Copeland Borough Council’s Best Kept Garden competition, which closes on Sunday.

The competition, which was launched on June 22, has proved to be popular, receiving entries from across the borough.

Mayor Mike Starkie said: “We’ve had some great gardening weather over the last few months with sunny spells and showers to keep our horticultural havens hydrated.”

He added that it will be a closely-run contest.

“We’re certain there’ll be so many gardens in peak condition right now.”

Gardening has proved to be a beneficial past-time to many during the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Starkie said: “This, alongside extra time at home for many, which has been spent tending to outdoor spaces, means it was the perfect time to run our borough’s best-kept garden competition.

“We’re overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received for the competition so far, and encourage everyone, from novice gardeners to those with years of experience, to show off their outdoor spaces and send us their photos.”

The council’s Parks and Open Spaces team will help to judge the competition.

To enter, email photographs along with your name, address and contact details to communications@copeland.gov.uk or via the council’s Facebook page. Residents can also put someone else forward for the competition, sending pictures and details of the person they would like to nominate.
