Finally, businesses are able to re-open after lockdown but in Denton Holme they have been hit with another obstacle.

After working hard to follow guideline the community is now faced with a road closure which could have a serious impact on on the survival of the business in the area.

Helping get the small business back on track Cumbria county councillor Karen Lockney said: "While business owners are realistic that road works are necessary, I understand their concern that custom may be affected. All the more reason why we need people to shop local.

"Lockdown helped a lot of us realise how much we value what we have around us, and we need to make sure that we go out of our way to support independent businesses. They provide a brilliant personal service and Denton Street is full of great shops.

"I'm determined to keep communication open regarding road works, particularly the United Utilities works on Denton Street, holding them to account on the information given about timescales and any delays. Please support these amazing businesses as we all get used to the new normal."

Working hard to open safely is Linda Purdy, of Linda’s Flowers said: "It is vital that the health and safety of our staff and customers is maintained and we are working hard to ensure this.

"The road works are a challenge because we carry heavy coffin sprays to load, but we do all we can to ensure our customers’ dignity is respected."

Welcoming customers back is Gill Musgrave, Colours of the Rainbow, she said: "We're still here, all open, we really look forward to seeing you."
