A NON-PROFIT group in West Cumbria has passed the criteria to be a Friends Against Scams organisation.

Copeland Age and Advice Centre CIC, based in Cleator Moor, received notification of the accreditation yesterday.

The awarding body is the National Trading Standards Scams Team.

They announced on their Facebook page, Copeland Age and Advice Centre CIC, that CAAS is now “a fully fledged Friends against Scams Organisation”.

The team will help older people avoid being targeted in scams, which costs the UK between £5bn and £10bn a year and affects 53 per cent of people over the age of 65.

They added that from tomorrow morning applications for call blockers are due to re-open on the Friends Against Scams website for those wishing to apply for themselves.
