The Salvation Army charity shop in Whitehaven will open on Monday.

The shop team are back at work this week preparing to make it safe for customers to return after 15 weeks in lockdown.

A Salvation Army spokesperson said: “We have missed all our generous donors and loyal shoppers and are looking forward to welcoming them back.

“We rely heavily on income from our charity shops to run services for vulnerable people and have made careful preparations to help protect our customers, staff and the communities we work in.”

The charity shops supports rough sleepers and stocking foodbanks which are busier than ever.

Sarah Heaney, northern regional manager at the Salvation Army Trading Company, said: “We are confident our preparations, which exceed Government guidance, will give customers a safe, positive and friendly shopping experience.”

The shop will have hand-sanitising stations, extra PPE protection for staff and screens at cash desks.

“We encourage contactless payment where possible.”

People will also be asked to call up for times to take in donations.
