A WHITEHAVEN fire crew last night faced one of their trickier callouts - the rescue of a five-year-old boy who was stuck in a toilet!

The adventurous youngster was trapped in a plastic toilet booster-seat.

"He'd got right through it - and become stuck at the waist," said a spokesman for the crew.

They were called out to the Derwentwater Road property in Whitehaven at 8.30pm by the boy's worried grandparents.

"We used a hacksaw to cut him free," continued the spokesman.

The boy - in his pyjamas and ready for bed when he got stuck - had been in the seat for more than an hour.

While one firefighter used the hacksaw to cut through the seat another talked to the boy to keep him calm.

The spokesman added: "The grandparents had tried their best to get him out but couldn't.

"Cutting through the seat was the easiest solution.

"The little lad was okay - and the grandparents were very grateful."
