TWO Women put out a distress call for mountain rescue after they became "cold, wet and totally lost" in foggy, rainy weather.

The incident happened yesterday in the Cold Fell area, which is south of Ennerdale Water, and Wasdale Mountain Rescue got the call at 2.59pm.

About 13 members of the team spent nearly six hours rescuing the pair.

A spokeswoman for the team said: "The call came in for two women lost.

"They were cold, wet, totally lost but very apologetic.

"Following a phone find location and after a few conversations on the phone, a limited call out was initiated to find them.

"Most team members met up at an rendezvous point on Cold fell with Jess the search dog.

"Whilst the team were walking to the location they were advised to walk down hill with the beck on their left hand side to meet up with the team."

"A relay was used at Skalderskew farm which worked really well in keeping a good line of communication between base and team members."
