Having, sadly, recently been obliged to add an inscription to a family headstone, I was shocked to discover the cost to be £5.50 per letter.
However, this pales into insignificance compared to the rebranding from RAF grey colours to the new coloured logos etc recently applied to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s state plane.
This RAF Voyager Airbus A330 was fitted out to former PM David Cameron’s specifications at a cost of £10million back in 2015, to ferry government ministers and royal family members around the world.
Now to ‘fly the flag’, as it were, our current PM has just spent £900,000 rebranding the aircraft in brilliant white with gold lettering, as he was seriously unimpressed with all that grey paint not quite living up to the image he likes to present.
I calculate he must have been charged around £10,000 per letter of the 38 on each side, including the EIIR.
I have allowed the remaining £140,000 to cover the four small union door flags, two RAF roundels, two crowns and the Union Jack tailfin on the new white base colour.
I wonder how many quotes he had for this latest flight of fancy of his, before splashing taxpayer cash?
