With a school's build on-hold and fundraisers frozen, one brave charity worker is taking to the skies to see pupils get the education they deserve.

Sharon Fox, of charity Siiboo, is all set for her daunting challenge – completing a wing walk to get the much-needed cash boost for a school in The Gambia.

The 42-year-old and her husband, Colin, have worked in the village of Bakendik for almost five years, doing their bit to improve the lives of youngsters by building a three-classroom school for children aged between four and seven years old.

And with just one classroom left to complete, and funds falling £4,000 short, Sharon can't wait to carry out her terrifying task.

"I’m feeling a little bit like what was I thinking?'," she said.

"It’s a bit daunting to know I’ll be strapped in by a five-point harness to the wings of a Boeing Stearman plane while it takes off and flies at heights of up to 700 feet and up to 100mph!"

She added: "Another part of me is also really excited, which is really strange as I’m not the best with heights or flying at the best of times."

The Egremont woman will complete the "walk" on July 25 at The Wing Walk Company in Lincolnshire, with the goal of raising £2,000.

She said: "I would be over the moon if I could achieve this, and every sleepless night and cold sweat would be worth it!

"The children are so eager to go to school – they sit still, listen carefully and behave because they know even at this young age that they need to learn to make their lives better.

"They have an instilled urge to grow and to learn to provide for their families, because education isn't free in The Gambia."
