A COUNCILLOR is to join a fell walking endurance test for a worthy cause.
Copeland’s mental health and wellbeing champion Carl Walmsley has spoken out about the issue in the past and to raise awareness is joining the Five Wainwrights Challenge on Saturday July 11. The fundraiser is in aid of the Yewdale Ward at West Cumberland Hospital.
Mr Walmsley said: “I have a passion for mental health and a passion for helping people, so to get involved in this was an easy decision to make. I have no doubt it will be a tough challenge, and I intend to train extremely hard in the next few weeks in preparation for this mammoth task."
The fundraiser also involves rugby league players, organised by Ryan Dodgson of the Frizington Covid-19 support group and Egremont ARL coach Gary Hewer.
Workington Town and Whitehaven RL players will put rugby rivalries aside to join in on the fundraiser.
