Cumbria Police is urging any male victim of domestic abuse to recognise that they are not alone, and to come forward to seek help.

The constabulary is keen to ensure that men recognise that domestic abuse can be suffered by both men and women, and to recognise when they need to seek help.

A spokesman for the force said: "If you’re a man in an abusive relationship, it is important that you know you are not alone.

"Abuse of men happens far more often than you might think and there are many services that can help .

"You can contact ‘ManKind’ on 01823 334244."

The ManKind Initiative, registered in 2001, was the first charity in Great Britain set up to support male victims of domestic abuse.

Cumbria Police can be contacted on 101.

Always call 999 in an emergency.
