A man has been arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary.

Police were called to the incident at Appleby yesterday (June 27) at 7.15pm, to a report that a man had entered a house on Scattergate Close holding an air pistol.

The victims of the burglary were not injured, and officers seized an air pistol which was found nearby.

A 46-year-old Appleby man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of a controlled Class B drug.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Kay, of North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, said: “We would like to reassure local residents that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of last night’s incident in Appleby.

“We can confirm a man is currently being questioned by officers in connection with the incident.

“Incidents such as this are rare and we would like to reassure people there is no perceived risk to any member of the public.”
