A MOUNTAIN rescue team has given thanks for a financial boost it received to help pay for protective equipment for its members.

Penrith MRT was awarded £600 from Cumbria Community Foundation's Cumbria Covid-19 Response Fund.

"A huge thank you," the team said on Facebook. "This will allow the team to purchase virustatic face shields which will provide vital personal protective equipment (PPE) to our team members on callouts."

Since its launch 13 weeks ago, the fund has donated more than £1m to community groups and charities helping others through the pandemic.

Community foundation chief executive Andy Beeforth said since the start of lockdown these groups have been working at "full throttle" to support vulnerable people affected by the virus.

The foundation is now moving to its next phase of supporting communities to recover from the immediate crisis and meet their longer-term changing needs.
