A Cumbrian cat has been named among the 20 most overlooked cats in England.

National charity Cat Chat helps shelters find homes for 10,000 rescued cats every year.

As part of its 20th anniversary, the charity has identified what it believes are 20 of the most overlooked felines, to try and find them their forever homes.

Among them is Penny, who has been in the care of Animal Concern Cumbria for more than four years. As part of a rehoming push, Cat Chat has created a quirky image of Penny as the main feature on a coin.

A spokeswoman for Cat Chat said: "With so many cats looking for homes, the plain, shy or older cats, tend to be glanced over and we wanted Penny to stand out.

"The Queen is a great animal lover and we trust she wouldn't mind letting this super sweet five-year-old take her place."
