A man has been arrested after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in a park today.
A 16-year-old girl was out running when she was assaulted by a man at Harris Park, Cockermouth.
She was uninjured in the attack.
The incident took place at around 8.30am today (June 3).
Police have arrested a 19-year-old Carlisle man on suspicion of sexual assault, and he remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Martin Hodgson said: "Incidents such as this are extremely rare and I want to reassure the public that Cumbria Police are taking this extremely seriously and have allocated a team of detectives to thoroughly investigate what taken place.
"If you were in Harris Park around the time of the incident the again we would like to hear from you."
