CHARITIES who help victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence can apply for extra funding from a £170,000 pot.

The money is available from Cumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall, who has been granted funding by the Ministry of Justice.

It aims to help registered charities in the county who may be struggling to keep their services going during the Coronavirus lockdown.

The process for applications is now open and will close on June 1 at noon.

Peter said: “Sadly, in Cumbria, we have seen domestic abuse increase since the beginning of the Government’s guidelines to stay at home.

“I would always encourage anyone in an abusive situation to come forward and report it to the police but I know that this isn’t an option for everyone which is why domestic abuse and sexual abuse charities are so important.

“Your work is so important to the people of Cumbria and we can help you during these difficult times.”
