A Maryport allotment holder has been left counting the cost after having essential equipment stolen.
Last Thursday Peter Scarratt, 65, found that someone had damaged the gate and fencing at his Sandy Lane plot to take four large water barrels, which had been emptied, and a new tap for a large water tank.
He hopes that it has been done in error as he has not been able to tend the plot as he usually does due to health issues.
He said: “Police have opened a theft investigation but all I want is to have my barrels and tap back and that will be an end to it.
“I feel it is likely someone thought my plot was abandoned, but it isn’t and now I don’t have enough water to begin growing again when my health allows.”
Peter said he needs the items back so that he can continue tending the plot as there is currently no water supply at the site.
