A REPORT published by the local government association shows that Cumbria has a high concentration of coronavirus cases per head compared with other single tier and county councils.

The report compared our county to the average of all English regions and all English single tier and county councils using daily data on the number of cases of Covid-19 in the area.

Numbers of cases are collated by Public Health England and published online.

These figures relate to confirmed hospital cases of Covid-19 following a positive test. They do not cover all cases of Covid-19 which may exist.

Data published shows that Cumbria has 508 more cumulative Covid-19 cases than the mean for all English single tier and county councils.

In this category Cumbria has 804 cases and the mean for single tier and county councils is 296, these figures relate to cases on Tuesday.

When looking at cumulative Covid-19 Cases per 100,000 people Cumbria had 161 on Tuesday whereas the mean for English single tier and county councils on this day was 84, a difference of 77.

Britain's coronavirus epidemic is expected to peak in just over two weeks before a steady decline in deaths.

On Tuesday, Dominic Raab, deputising for Boris Johnson, said that the worst thing the country could do was "take its foot off the pedal" in terms of the strict social distancing measures when asked whether the Government had decided to extend the lockdown.

"In terms of the review, we are not at that stage yet," he said.

"We will take any decision when the time is right, based on the facts and the scientific and medical advice.

"Our number one and overriding focus right now is on conveying the key message which is that everyone needs to keep adhering to this guidance."
