Suzanna Cruickshank’s new book Swimming Wild in the Lake District highlights some of the best spots to dive into in the national park.

It’s a guide intended to give a helping hand to people who are completely new to the art of wild swimming but it also shines a light on undiscovered spots that experienced swimmers may not know about.

Suitable for both experienced swimmers and beginners, the book explores the best fifty secluded swimming locations across fourteen lakes in the Lake District National Park, with an emphasis on taking the time to enjoy the stunning surroundings.

Illustrated with photography and featuring an overview maps, the book contains all the practical advice you need including access by car or public transport, safety advice and the essential kit you need.

Suzanna has her own business, Suzanna Swims, leading guided swims and swim-hikes for groups and individuals.

She set the business up based on her experience leading all-women, walking groups and strives to offer low-key and unpressured swims with no competitive or training element.

She was competed at the winter swimming world championships and was a medallist in the inaugural Scottish winter swimming championships last year.

In particular, the book focuses on wild swimming locations in the tourist hotspots of Windermere and Derwentwater and takes you the Bassenthwaite and Crummock water and Devoke water, with the emphasis on take time to enjoying the stunning surroundings.

In the book Suzanna vividly describes her wild swimming experiences and brings the characteristics of each lake to life.

Whether you're an experienced wild swimmer or just dipping your toes in the water for the first time, you'll find plenty to inspire your next adventure.

Suzanna first moved to Cumbria on a whim in 2006 after climbing one mountain and has been in love with the area ever since.

In her spare time she loves to walk in the quieter parts of the Lake District on the lookout for great places to swim.

She lives in west Cumbria with her dog Rosie.

From having never swam outdoors to spending most of her free time in a swimsuit, she loves the diverse opportunities to open water swimming in the Lake District.

As well as being an experienced open water swimmer, Suzanna is a trainee Mountain Leader.

Swimming Wild in the Lake District is her first book.
