Police have confirmed a man has died following a crash on the A596.

The crash involved an Allerdale Borough Council bin lorry and a motorbike which left a 59-year-old man dead.

It happened between Crosby and Crosby Villa this morning just after 9am.

A spokesman for the police said: “As a result of the collision the rider of the motorcycle a 59-year-old man from the local area died.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The lorry involved belongs to FCC Environment who the council have a waste and recycling partnership with.

In a statement from Allerdale council, it said: “We are aware of an accident involving one of our bin lorries. The service is currently operated by our contractor FCC. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

“As the matter is under investigation by Cumbria Police we cannot comment further at this time.

“We can confirm that no bin rounds were affected as they sent other crews out to them.”
