Those in isolation or who are unable to get ingredients for healthy and tasty meals can relax, as one caring catering team is on the job.

Sam and Jean Small, of West Coast Catering, are taking their food service to the road, offering people along the Cumbrian coast affordable meals without even having to leave their home.

And supporting the community during a time of uncertainty and isolation was an easy decision to make for the duo.

"We have the facilities and the skills to provide meals to people, so why wouldn't we?" chef and delivery driver Sam said.

"Firstly we needed to do something to bring [money] in for us, but secondly, people need it, especially the elderly and the vulnerable.

"It's really hard to get ingredients at the moment – there's no pasta, no flour, no all sorts, so if we can help people, we're going to."

While the business is based in Egremont, the non-contact deliveries stretch up to Workington, and as far down as Gosforth.

Sam added that although deliveries further away from Egremont are less frequent, multiple meals can be delivered at once, and the more people who order from each area, the more often they can deliver there.

"Unfortunately it would cost more in petrol to deliver one meal to Workington in each day than we would make from the food," he said.

"The response has been very, very good though – we're delivering to the local area every day, and have plenty of capacity to carry out more deliveries."

Meals are delivered cold, and are dropped off outside the door to keep both Sam and the customer safe.

Meals start at £3.50, with Sunday dinners offered for £6 and afternoon tea for £4.95, and can be paid for via bank transfer.
