A charity fundraiser is appealing for help as events are cancelled and donations dry up.

Julianne Kelly director of Together We Can, supports five charities, but is making this appeal on behalf of everyone.

"I am asking funders throughout the area to consider helping us. Not only have we had to cancel all our fundraising events for the foreseeable future but our needs are growing."

She said one example d House, a homeless hostel in Egremont.

The hostel is closed to visitors but staff are still working around the clock to support residents

and other homeless people in Cumbria.

"Because of the need for isolation, residents can no longer congregate in the lounge so we would like to buy televisions for their rooms.

"We need money for food and running costs and to fund the Calderwood Coffee Van to provide frontline staff with drinks and food and delivering food to others."

The Women Out West centre for women in Whitehaven is closed but staff are supporting disadvantaged women in Cumbria by telephone and video calls, and need help with running costs.

The same applies to Safety Net (UK), which offers support services for children and adults affected by rape and sexual abuse and the Blue Sky Trust Cumbria supporting people living with HIV.

Always Another Way, working for people with mental health difficulties and the Freedom Project, helping those affected by domestic violence, are also keeping in touch with those in need by telephone and video links.

Julianne said: "While we are appealing for funds to help those charities we represent, our appeal goes out on behalf of every charity who will be suffering at this awful, scary time.

"We would like to appeal to local funders, businesses and anyone in the community who can make a donation to one of our clients to please get in touch.

"Over the last week, we have seen first hand the difficulties that our clients and other charities are going through. Many services that have had to look at other ways to support vulnerable people in our community, the impact of this has been horrendous."
