A West Cumbrian teenager has been spared jail after he admitted assaulting a man.

Corey Anthony Williams, 19, of Melbreak Avenue in Cleator Moor, appeared at the magistrates court in Workington on Friday.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting Ryan Worthington by beating him at Distington on March 5.

Williams was handed a 28-day jail term suspended for 12 months.

Magistrates felt the offence was so serious due to it being committed while on post-sentence supervision and the injuries caused to the victim.

He was also handed a further 20 days in prison, suspended for 12 months, for the original offence, committed on January 8, of using threatening behaviour.

Williams must also complete 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.

He was ordered to pay £150 compensation to Mr Worthington.

He must also pay £85 court costs and £122 victim surcharge.
