FAMOUS Bradford brass bands will be witnessed by visitors from across Europe and the United Kingdom next weekend.

The Yorkshire Brass Band Championships take place on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.

It will see the likes of world-famous Queensbury band, Black Dyke, and current Yorkshire Champion title-holders, Brighouse and Rastrick, pit themselves against 14 other prestigious bands at Huddersfield Town Hall.

They will compete in the Championship Section on the Sunday afternoon.

Robert Turnbull, Regional Secretary and Contest Controller, said: "The contest is closely fought. The playing is passionate and can be breathtaking and all for the glory of being Yorkshire Champion."

Four bands from this category will represent Yorkshire in the Championship Section Finals of the National Championships.

They will be held in the Royal Albert Hall, London, in October.

Meanwhile, the winner and runner-up from the lower sections of the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships will also get their chance to represent the region.

This will be in the Lower Section Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, which will be held on September 26 and 27 at the Centaur Centre, Cheltenham Race Course.

The Yorkshire Brass Band Championships begin at 9.15am on the Saturday and 9.30am on the Sunday.

The Championship Section - which involves Black Dyke - commences at 2.30pm on the Sunday.
