One caring group have thanked the community for its never-ending support, after donations paid for life-saving equipment.

The Gavin Curwen Heart Screening Foundation was set up in memory of Gavin Curwen, who sadly died in 2017, and the group has aimed to raise enough money to screen each Wath Brow Hornets RLFC player and the wider community.

And thanks to all their supporters, more than 83 people had their hearts screened, and life-saving equipment including defibrillators have been bought for local sports clubs, along with donations made to other fundraisers.

A team of doctors and nurses from the Welsh Hearts Association attended the screening, which saw 14 people sent for further tests and three being referred to a cardiologist.

A spokesman for the foundation said: "Once again, thank you for your continued support and generous donations for which we are very grateful.

"If we can save one life then it has been worthwhile."
