The tasty treat may originate from a land far away but here in Cumbria, we’re blessed with a number of top curry houses and takeaways.
Several of them have won awards and are among the most popular places to spend a Friday or Saturday night.
Dozens of our readers have nominated their favourite place in north and west Cumbria to get hold of one.
It could be a restaurant or a takeaway and we’ve compiled the most popular - in no particular order - for you to check out.
1: SHUHAG, WIGTON
The Indian restaurant is based on King Street.
Kristina Broomfield said: “Shuhag in Wigton.
Really good service and amazing food.”
2: THE MANGO TREE, CARDEWLEES, NEAR CARLISLE
A restaurant and takeaway is just a few miles west of Carlisle.
It proved to be one of the most popular with readers thanks to what they believe is “good food and service”.
Michelle James posted: “It has fantastic food and service.”
Dawn Dalton wrote: “The Mango Tree offers great food and delivery service.”
3: SPICE FUSION, LONGTOWN
This takeaway in Swan Street is popular with local thanks to its top service and tasty food, according to our readers.
Emily Kate wrote on Facebook: “Spice Fusion in Longtown is my suggestion.
"It offers amazing service and amazing food.”
Nath Dixon agreed. He posted: “That’s seconded.
"Spice Fusion is easily the best Indian/Bangladeshi takeaway I’ve had in a long while.”
4: CARLISLE EXPRESS INDIAN, LONDON ROAD, CARLISLE
Readers liked the midweek deals it offers.
Heather Marie Berry was among those who put forward the takeaway.
She said: “The Carlisle Express Indian is just lovely.”
5: BARI RESTAURANT, WEST TOWER STREET, CARLISLE
Sitting opposite Carlisle Castle the city centre restaurant has been a food fixture for 15
years, building up a stellar reputation.
It was suggested by Vicky, who left a glowing recommendation: “ Bari on West Tower Street is the one.
"It has delicious food and great service.”
6 THE VICEROY, SHADDONGATE, CARLISLE
A number of readers and social media followers suggested The Viceroy.
It is a multi-award winning Bangladeshi family-run restaurant which first opened
back in 1991.
It’s remained a popular fixture ever since.
7: PAPRIKA, WORKINGTON
Lauren Etherington Paprika wrote in to suggest Paprika which specialises in traditional curries.
8: SHAHA TANDOORI, BOTCHERGATE, CARLISLE
The Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant and takeaway received several nominations from readers. It’s one of the city’s oldest, and was established in 1977.
