A WOMAN has spoken out after a shower of homophobic abuse left her feeling suicidal.

Natalie Brown said she received nothing but support from her friends and family when she told them she was gay.

But the Egremont woman has been targeted by a man who shouts homophobic insults at her daily.

The 34-year-old, who has recently been diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder, said the situation is “like a living nightmare” and it has left her feeling suicidal.

She said: “I’m scared, I’m absolutely terrified, he makes me feel unsafe in my own home. I can’t handle any more of this.”

Natalie has an eight-year-old son and her and her former partner had to agree he would not stay overnight at Natalie’s house any longer, due to the abuse she receives from the man, who lives nearby.

“I have shared on Facebook how I feel and a lot of people commented.

“I feel like the community around me supports me, but this one person is managing to make me feel so bad.”

Natalie said the man also throws coins at her window and in her direction when she is outside, even if her son is there.

She said he is terrified by the man. Despite reporting the matter to the police and trying to engage with other agencies, Natalie has been left feeling like there is no support available for her.

Natalie said: “I feel mentally and physically drained, I feel like I’m screaming at the top of my lungs and nobody is listening.”

Sergeant David Macdonald said: “We take all reports of hate crime seriously. No one should ever have to feel afraid of being who they are because of their sexuality, beliefs, race, gender or disability.

“The case discussed was fully investigated. On this occasion, there was insufficient evidence to proceed.

“We would encourage anyone who is a victim of a hate crime to contact us and report the matter.”
