A POLICE CADET has held a charity night in aid of PC Nick Dumphreys who lost his life in a motorway crash whilst responding to an emergency call.

13 year-old Aleesha Graham from Workington organised a fundraising night held on Thursday February 13 to support the family of PC Dumphreys.

The disco raised funds through a £5 entry fee and businesses donated prizes for raffles.t

An initial sum of £190.80 was raised but a last minute donation from Marshall’s Butchers, Workington took the grand total up to £290.80.

Cumberland Capers Disco provided entertainment for the evening at Moorclose Community Centre with Pet Encounter Cumbria bringing their exotic animals.

Manager of Moorclose Community Centre Angela Good gave Aleesha a room for the charity night free of charge.

And she explained that the death of PC Dumphreys had an affect on Aleesha, leading her to hold the fundraiser.

She said: “Sadly when the police officer was killed it had quite an effect on her.

“For a little girl of that age to come up with this idea, it’s amazing.”

A volunteer from South Workington Youth Partnership, Trish Heron said: “She organised this by herself and the whole of Moorclose came together to support her and the cause.”

The charity night was well attended with councillors showing their support.

Mayor Janet King and deputy mayor David King attended along with councillors Sean Melton, Herbert Briggs and John Hunter.

Angela said: "Sean Melton was there, he has done so much for this community centre and the local community, he's amazing."

Moorclose Community Centre regularly host a food pantry and Fabulous Friday in their cafe where affordable meals are served.
