A NURSE is facing the sack after allegedly stealing toys from a children's ward.

The nurse is alleged to have taken toys from the ward at Furness General Hospital.

Bosses from the hospital have confirmed that disciplinary proceedings are ongoing against the nurse.

A number of charities and community groups have donated toys to the children on the ward.

David Wilkinson, director of people and organisational development for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), which oversees the hospital, confirmed allegations had been made.

He said 'appropriate action' had been taken following the allegations.

“We can confirm that allegations of theft were made and, following investigation, appropriate action was taken by the trust, " Mr Wilkinson said.

“As the process remains ongoing, we have a duty of confidence towards individual colleagues involved and cannot provide any further comment at this time.”
