HUNDREDS of runners braved the elements on a bracing morning to take part in parkrun.

Joggers, runners and walkers and volunteers all came together across the south of the county to participate in what has become a Saturday morning tradition.

More than 300 people took part overall despite Storm Ciara threatening a wet and windy start to the weekend.

A total of 174 parkrunners completed 5km around Barrow Park.

Lizzie Brown, of the Sheffield-based Hallamshire Harriers running club,was the first to finish the course, finishing in 18.30.

She previously set a female record for the course in 2012.

Sixteen people ran a personal a personal best, including Jason Caine, John Woodhouse, Sam Carr and Simon Carr who all romped over the line among the first 10 positions.

There were 10 first-timers.

Katie Noble and Leeann Evans both celebrated their 50th parkruns, while Bill Kitchin made it to his 100th

Gathering at the shores of Windermere were 147 parkrunners laced up the shoes at Fell Foot.

Finishing in the quickest time was a parkrun tourist from Liverpool Harriers, who beat the rest of the cohort to the finish line.

It was an especially brilliant effort from 29 parkrunners, who all achieved their personal bests on the day.

Elsewhere in Ulverston’s Ford Park 85 people took to the course in the shadow of the Sir John Barrow Monument.

The first to finish was another runner hailing from the Steel City, in the shape of Chris Joyce, of Sheffield Tri, who finished the course in a personal best of 17.11.

Ronnie Haddow from Furness Fell Runners was the second fastest to complete the course.

Approaching half a century, Barrow police inspector Jim Bailey finished the course in fifth position on his 49th parkrun.

At Millom parkrun, there were 25 participants.

John Rodgers from Millom Striders Running Club finished quickest overall with a time of 24.35 in his 96th parkrun.

Callan Woodburn and Abbie Tyson recorded personal bests.

Peter Jackson was completing his 154th parkrun, Jonathan Bailey his 137th and it was Rachel Read’s 136th.
