Passengers are set to face delays this evening as Northern Rail have signalling problem.
Services are expected to back up and running by at least 8pm.
The route affected is between Carlisle and Lancaster / Barrow-in-Furness.
A spokesman for the operator said: "A fault with the signalling system between Workington and Whitehaven is causing disruption to journeys between these stations.
"Services may be cancelled, delayed or revised.
"We anticipate disruption will continue until at least 8pm."
