A SERVING prisoner has been given a concurrent custodial sentence after attacking a prison officer.

Dalton Lee Fisher was an inmate at Haverigg Prison on May 20 when he assaulted a female prison officer on two occasions.

At South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Thursday Fisher appeared via video link where he pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency services worker who was acting in the exercise of her functions.

Magistrates heard Fisher twice attacked Victoria Speed at HMP Haverigg.

The court was told Fisher, who is now in prison in Stockton in the North East, is serving a custodial sentence imposed in 2013.

Magistrates said the offence warranted a 26-week custodial sentence, to run concurrently to his current incarceration, because it was a repeated assault which caused ongoing injuries and there was an intent to cause more serious harm.

Fisher was also told to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
