Firefighters in Cockermouth were called out after winds damaged a building.

The crew were called just before 9.30am to Euro Garages on Lamplugh Road.

Strong winds have ripped part of the roof off the garage.

A spokesman for the station said: "We were called to Euro Garages on Lamplugh Road to secure a dangerous structure where the garage forecourt roof has been damaged by Storm Ciara cordons now in place and premises closed for safety."

Firefighters from Carlisle East Station have advised people to stay safe and not take any unnecessary risks.

A spokesman said: "With the awful weather we are experiencing, we would like to ask the public to avoid taking any unnecessary risks.

"Do not enter, or try to drive through floodwater, and only make journeys if they are completely necessary."
