Dozens of flood warnings and alerts have been issued to parts of the county.
The Environment Agency has closed a number of flood gates overnight.

A spokesman for the agency said: "We are closely monitoring the situation.
"Our incident response staff are checking defences.
"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses."
A number of roads are now inpassable or blocked.
On the A66 one lane closed and heavy traffic due to flooding on Eastbound from A685 Brough to A1M junction 53 Scotch Corner.
At Ecclerigg on the A591 both ways is closed due to flooding from Kirk Lane to Brook Street, Troutbeck Bridge.
Roads affected:
A591 is closed due to flooding near White Cross Bay, between Windermere and Ambleside.
B5300 Dubmill Point closed due to debris on the road following high tide.
Back road to Sale Fell off the A66 past the Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite due to a fallen tree.
A591 Kendal Bypass Northbound near the Shenstone Interchange (A6) is currently passable with extra care due to flooding.
A7 Westlinton – reports of flooding on the road.
