Emergency services were called out in the early hours after concerns were raised for a man's welfare.
Police and the Coastguard were both alerted this morning to an incident at Whitehaven harbour.
A police spokesman said: "We were dealing with concern for the welfare of a man who was then located on the west pier at Whitehaven Harbour.
"He was safely located and so the request for assistance from other agencies wasn’t required."
Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Teams and St Bees RNLI were then stood down and the incident was closed at 12.45am.
