A series of fires which happened overnight in Whitehaven are being treated as arson.

Police are investigating the incidents at Haig Enterprise Park,which occurred in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "Four vehicles have been damaged by a fire within a compound that started at approximately 3am. A nearby stable and a caravan were also set alight. No one was in the caravan at the time.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident."

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue said: "At around 03:50am, two fire engines were called to reports of a caravan fire on Solway Road, Whitehaven. Crews used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. Crews were in attendance for approximately 45 minutes."

Whitehaven Fire Station posted a statement on Facebook, which said crews were involved in tackling the fires.

It said: "This morning at 03.42, both appliances from Whitehaven and one from Egremont were called to multiple fires in the Kells area, cars, a caravan and some small stables were found to be well alight on arrival, crews were on scene for approximately one hour."
