TRUCKS, tractors, motorbikes and vehicles of all kinds lined the roads in a stunning fundraiser for a man battling cancer.

Workers at John Elliot Ltd, in Great Clifton, decided to organise a Truck and Tractor Run after hearing their colleague Greg Close had been diagnosed with cancer.

And in just three weeks, they organised a spectacular events that saw vehicles travel in convoy from Flimby to the White Heather Hotel, at Kirkbride.

And the event, at the weekend, raised a mammoth £7,000 with money still flowing in.

Organiser, David Clark, said: “I work with Greg and he has been there for about 20 years but he was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas.

“He has always been into trucks and tractors so we decided to organise a tractor run for him.

“We were given loads of prizes for a raffle from local firms and we ended up with 350 people at the White Heather, which was fantastic. People came from all over, some travelled down from Aberdeen and there were others from Lancaster and surrounding areas.

“It is just fantastic that it was so well supported, this is all for a local lad who is just an awesome bloke.”

Mark Elliot, director of John Elliot Ltd, added his thanks to everyone who was involved.

He said: “It just went amazing. I couldn’t believe the response we got and the generosity of people. We asked some of our clients and they were great, giving raffle prizes. And also the people who came along on the day.

“Everyone was asking how they could help. We also made hats, I donated half the money and the other half came from A1 tractors. Then Alison Watson embroidered them and we sold all 200.”

If anyone would like to donate they can take it to John Elliot’s yard at Great Clifton.
