Police at the West Cumberland Hospital earlier this morning were assisting staff with a mental health patient.
Three police vehicles were parked up outside of the A&E entrance, assisting staff with the medical care of a woman detained under the Mental Health Act.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Police were contacted at 3.56am today following concerns for the welfare of a woman in Workington."
They said: "The woman was located at New Bridge Road and detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
"Officers are currently at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven assisting medical professionals as the woman is handed into their care."
