Free health checks are set to be carried out in Whitehaven tomorrow to try and reduce the risk of strokes.

The Copeland Community Stroke Prevention Group is offering the service in Dixon's store, as they look to pick up on risk factors.

The group will be there between 10am and 1pm and the store is offering a voucher for a free cup of coffee for customers who have their blood pressure tested.

Julie Clayton, from NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The team has always been very busy when we are out and about – not just carrying out lots of tests but also talking to people about their health and making them aware of other information that could be helpful.

“As well as picking up potential health problems the days are also good fun. We are delighted that Dixon’s asked us to set up in the shop and chat to customers.”

Marie Dixon from Dixon’s added: “We have strong links with the local community and are delighted to have invited the Copeland Community Stroke Prevention Project to the store on Tuesday.”
