FOUR Cumbrian districts will be battling it out to compete for national honours at this year’s RHS Britain in Bloom competition.

Representing the county will be Penrith and Ulverston, competing in the large town and town categories respectively, and Kirkoswald is competing in the village category.

They will be going head to head against 66 other towns and cities.

Parish councillor Sue Quinn, the In Bloom co-ordinator for Kirkoswald, said: “We are very proud and honoured. A lot of people work to keep the village looking nice and there is a lot of pride in the village.”

Carol Grey, a member of Penrith In Bloom, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be chosen, it is an acknowledgement of all the work done by the community.”

Each entrant will have their entry scrutinised by a pair of RHS judges in August as they vie for a medal, a category win and a chance to be named Champion of Champions.
