A well-known tourist attraction is running an open week for front of house staff working at other operators.

The team at Honister Slate Mine, near Keswick, are running the Cumbrian business open week from February 3 to February 9 for staff working in hotels and guesthouses.

The idea behind the initiative is to help the front of house staff in local hotels and guesthouses develop their knowledge of the area.

It is hoped this will help them improve their guests' stay, by being able to recommend different activities or things to do depending on their interests.

Jan Wilkinson, co-owner of Honister Slate Mine, said: "We know the front of house team are the most important ambassadors for any business, so that’s why we are inviting representatives from hotels and guesthouses from across Cumbria to come to Honister Slate Mine.

"If you experience something first-hand you can share it authentically with guests, and that passion comes across.

"It’s also a fun CPD opportunity for hoteliers and guesthouse owners to offer their staff."

Up to two staff members from each business will be able to book a place on the mine's all-weather experience.

This will include a mine tour, a taster of the via ferrata extreme or a 'climb the mine' taster.

There will also be a chance to explore the site with its outdoor sculptures, shop, café and views across the Lakeland fells.
