A DALTON mum has said 'the world's gone mad' after her partner was told he couldn't buy alcohol because his daughter was with him.

Kirsty Jepson's partner Kyle visited Tesco Extra in Barrow on Saturday to buy some groceries.

His trolley also included a bottle of gin but when he got to the checkout he was told he could not buy the alcohol as his teenage daughter was with him.

Miss Jepson said: "Word of advice don’t go to the big Tesco with your teenage child as they won’t serve you beer as they think it’s for the child! The world's gone mad!"

A number of Miss Jepson's friends reported similar experiences at other supermarkets.

One said: "I used to get refused in Home Bargains because I had two children in a double buggie."

Another said: "They did it to me in Home Bargains... they asked for ID for Georgia, I said why, the beer is for me and I'm old enough to buy it... she said I'm sorry I cant serve you if you dont have ID for her."

A third said: "One of mine took it out of the trolley so because they had touched it I couldn't buy it."

The law states retailers can reserve the right to refuse the sale of alcohol to an adult if they’re accompanied by a child and think the alcohol is being bought for the child.
