AN AMENDMENT has been submitted to plans for the redevelopment of a playing field’s changing rooms.
The original plans submitted in 2018 to Allerdale Council by Wigton town council were for the demolition of sports changing rooms and public toilets at Barton Laws and the erection of a new community building to include sport changing rooms and public toilets.
The amendment that was submitted last week is for the reduction in building footprint and raising of the building about previous approval.
Barton Laws, a playing field and community building in Wigton, has been awaiting redevelopment since 2013.
The town council bought it in 1920 as a memorial to the Wigton soldiers who died in World War One.
During the full council meeting held by Wigton Council on December 11, some scheme changes suggested by the Football Foundation and Sports England were approved. These included drawings for the new changing rooms, although some observations were made by councillors.
Councillor Mike Armstrong asked if provision could be included for a separate power source to provide electricity for events.
Work is expected to take 20 weeks when it begins.
