A NEW community music-making group has been launched at the Rosehill Theatre, Moresby, near Whitehaven.
The weekly sessions are part of the national Community Music for All (CoMA) network and the ensemble is open to anyone that plays an instrument at Grade 5 level or above.
CoMA was established in 1993 to provide opportunities for amateur musicians to participate actively in the creation and performance of contemporary music.
Kate Halsall, who is a tutor on the young musicians programme at the Centre for Advanced Training, Sage Gateshead and a visiting tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, will lead the group.
As a performer and promoter of new music Kate has commissioned, premiered, recorded and broadcast many new works.
The group’s repertoire will feature a range of works by established and emerging composers, students and CoMA members.
Players also have an opportunity to perform at the Festival of Contemporary Music for All at Sage Gateshead and will work towards public concerts at Rosehill and elsewhere.
The CoMA team often work directly with composers and many ensemble members are themselves composers, so sessions will potentially allow members the opportunity to try out compositional ideas with the group.
Sessions will take place every Thursday at Rosehill Theatre from 7pm to 9pm.
