STAFF at Age UK West Cumbria have thanked the Rotary Club of West Lakeland for making them charity of the year for 2019/2020.

Events will be held to raise funds for the charity throughout the year.

Age UK West Cumbria offer support to older people in later life.

The rotary club chose to support them after meeting the charity’s Community Connections Worker for Gosforth and Seascale.

The Community Connections project provides support for older people in the area suffering from social isolation.

Rob Broad, Rotary Club of West Lakeland president said: “The Rotary Club of West Lakeland is very pleased to be supporting Age UK West Cumbria. This local charity provides so much invaluable help for our older community.”

“We are planning several local events over the coming months for example our third annual Rotating Wheels Vintage Rally in Gosforth on the third Sunday in July, a sponsored walk in May and other activities to help raise funds.”

He said: “Most importantly, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their ongoing support with the Rotary Club, which makes these events so worthwhile and enjoyable to do.”

David Hole, Age UK West Cumbria’s chief executive officer said: “We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of West Lakeland for making us their charity of the year.” Fundraising activity like this helps support our vital services for older people across West Cumbria.”
