GRATEFUL fundraiser Alan Murray of Workington is running a marathon in aid of the Henderson Suite in the West Cumberland Hospital, after a family member was nursed back to health at the ward.

Alan, 35, of Moorclose is running in day one of the Frosty Triple Series at Barrow in Furness today.

A close family member was treated at the Henderson Suite: “They made a full recovery and they were able to ring that bell.”

There is a bell at the suite which patients ring when they are in remission.

Alan wants to give back: “I want it to be about the Henderson Suite, I thought it would be a good thing.

Alan, coaches as Workington Amateur Boxing Club and works for Sellafield Limited.

He has raised funds for numerous charities over the years including Cancer Research UK in 2011 and Hospice at Home in 2012. Alan has found a love for running: “It’s good for your mental health.”
