FREEZING temperatures and gale force winds brought a flurry of snowfall to the county.
As dawn broke yesterday, motorists reported snow on the higher part of the Pennines, including areas such as Alston and Hartside.
Conditions are set to remain chilly today as voters across the county head out to cast their vote in the General Election.
In Carlisle, temperatures will peak at five degrees with intermittent light rain throughout the day.
While in Whitehaven, heavy showers are forecast, with a high of six degrees.
A spokesman from the Met Office said: “After a largely dry, cloudy start, spells of heavy rain will move in from the west through the afternoon.
“The rain may turn to snow over higher ground.”
